چکیده
Here, we provide evidence for the neural crest origin of mammalian Merkel cells. Together with nerve terminals, Merkel cells form slowly adapting cutaneous mechanoreceptors that transduce steady indentation in hairy and glabrous skin. We have determined the ontogenetic origin of Merkel cells in Wnt1-cre/R26R compound transgenic mice, in which neural crest cells are marked indelibly. Merkel cells in whiskers and interfollicular locations express the transgene, -galactosidase, identifying them as neural crest descendants. We thus conclude that murine Merkel cells originate from the neural crest. © 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). All rights reserved.

Bideterminants, arborescences and extension of the Matrix-Tree theorem to semirings
The Matrix-Tree Theorem is a well-known combinatorial result relating the value of the minors of a certain square matrix to the sum of the weights of the arborescences (= rooted directed trees) in the associated graph. We prove an extension of this result to algebraic structures much more general than the field of real numbers, namely commutative semirings. In such structures, the first law (ad...
متن کاملKirkman school project designs
A Kirkman school project design on v elements consists of the maximum admissible number of disjoint parallel classes, each containing blocks of sizes three except possibly one of size two or four. Cern y, Horr ak, and Wallis completely settled existence when v 0; 2 (mod 3) and made some progress and advanced a conjecture when v 1 (mod 3). In this paper, a complete solution for the existence of ...
